Intro to Trackdays: Takeaways from Our Prineville Event on 2/22

Curious about riding on the track but don’t know where to start? That’s exactly what we covered at our Intro to Trackdays Open House Saturday night February 22! We were thrilled to host an incredible group of riders, from total beginners to experienced street riders looking to take their skills to the next level.

Two of the biggest names in the industry—Mark DeGross with 2-Fast Motorcycle Trackdays and Sage Wilkinson with CT Racing Services —shared insider knowledge on what to expect at a trackday, how to prepare, and why hitting the track can make you a better, safer rider. We also offered $20 Dyno runs for those that made it to the event.

This bike came in running fine but we noticed a lean condition after 7000 RPM and advised customer he may have a fuel pump going bad. This is an example of things we can spot on the Dyno before you suffer a failure at the racetrack. Sometimes the Dyno serves us as a diagnostic tool in addition to its primary purpose of being a tuning tool.

If you missed it, don’t worry! We’ve put together this recap to highlight the most important takeaways.

What is a Trackday? A trackday is an organized event where motorcyclists can ride on a closed circuit in a controlled environment—without speed limits, traffic, or unexpected road hazards. It’s not a race, but rather a place to develop skills, test your bike’s capabilities, and experience the thrill of riding at your own pace in a safe setting.

Top 5 Takeaways from the Event

1️⃣

Don’t Be Intimidated—Trackdays Are for Everyone! Both speakers emphasized that you don’t need to be a pro to participate in a trackday. Many riders assume they need a race bike or expert skills, but that’s not the case! Whether you ride a sportbike, a naked bike, or even an adventure bike, you can get started with minimal modifications and at your own comfort level. "The biggest myth is that trackdays are only for racers. In reality, they’re for anyone who wants to be a better, more confident rider."

2️⃣

Gear Up: What You Need for Your First Trackday. Safety is the top priority, and that means having the right gear. Most trackday organizations require:

✔

 A full-face helmet (Snell/DOT approved)

✔

A one-piece or two-piece leather suit with proper armor

✔

 Gauntlet gloves and over-the-ankle boots

✔

A back protector (recommended for extra safety)

If you don’t have a full track setup yet, don’t worry! Many events allow gear rentals or loaners.

3️⃣

Bike Prep: Getting Your Motorcycle Ready. Prepping your bike for the track doesn’t mean you need a race-ready machine. The key points covered included:

🔧

Tires: Make sure they’re in good condition with plenty of tread.

🔧

Brakes: Fresh brake pads and properly bled lines are essential.

🔧

Fluids & Safety Check: Check your oil, coolant, and brake fluid before heading out.

🔧

Tape It Up: Most trackdays require taping over mirrors and removing or covering glass surfaces.

4️⃣

Trackdays Make You a Better Street Rider. One of the biggest benefits of attending a trackday is improving your real-world riding skills. On the track, you can:

🏍

Practice cornering techniques in a safe environment

🏍

Learn proper body positioning for better control

🏍

Improve braking and throttle control without road hazards

🏍

Build confidence at speed in a structured setting

Many riders find that after a few trackdays, they feel more in control, smoother, and safer on the street.
